Rules and Time Limits for Individual Events (5th New England International Wushu Championships and 2nd All-America Taiji Cup)
Contemporary Wushu (barehand and weapons)
Beginning-Intermediate: minimum 45 seconds, maximum 2 minutes
Advanced: minimum 1 minute, 20 seconds
Traditional Kung Fu (barehand and weapons)
All levels: minimum 30 seconds, maximum 2 minutes
Taijiquan
24 Form
All levels: minimum 4 minutes, maximum 6 minutes (30 second warning before time limit reached)
42 Form taijiquan
All levels: minimum 5 minutes, maximum 6 minutes (30 second warning before time limit reached)
Other Taijiquan
All levels: minimum 3 minutes, maximum 5 minutes (30 second warning before time limit reached reached)
Other Internal Barehand
All levels: minimum 1 minute, maximum 2.5 minutes (30 second warning before time limit reached reached)
Internal Weapons
Taiji Sword: minimum 1 minutes, maximum 4 minutes (30 second warning before time limit reached)
All levels: minimum 1 minute, maximum 2.5 minutes (30 second warning before time limit reached)
Continuous Light Contact Sparring
(1) 30 seconds of continuous fighting.
(2) Best two out of three rounds decided by 3 judges.
(3) If there is a draw at the end of the match, the winner will be determined by the head judge.
Rules and Time Limits for Group Events (5th New England International Wushu Championships and 2nd All-America Taiji Cup)
Choreographed Fighting – External
All levels: minimum 30 seconds, maximum 2 minutes
Choreographed Fighting – Internal
All levels: minimum 1 minute, maximum 4 minutes
Group External
All levels: minimum 30 seconds, maximum 2 minutes
Group Internal
All levels: minimum 3 minutes, maximum 7 minutes
This event will award a spot on the 2014 U.S. Traditional Team for any competitor who finishes third in any traditional event at the 5th New England International Wushu Championships. The U.S. team will go on to compete at the 6th World Traditional Wushu Championships in Chizhou, China, October 23-29, 2014. It is an option in the 5th New England International Wushu Championships, for an additional $50 fee.

If you are flying in to Connecticut, please make your final destination the Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. This airport is a half hour drive from the tournament hotel and venue.

Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet all qualifications to qualify for the Duan Ranking Examination.
Please mail or email proof of all of the following to taijiquantrials@gmail.com.
(1) Applicant must be a current member of the USAWKF or apply for USAWKF membership at the time of the
examination. See the USAWKF website at www.usawkf.com.
(2) Applicant must be at least 10 years of age.
(3) Specific Duan Requirements:
- Applicants for 1st Duan must be at least 10 years of age and have practiced Chinese martial arts for more than 2 years. To pass, they must receive a technical evaluation of more than 7 points in one barehand form (the maximum possible score is 10 points).
- Applicants for 2nd Duan must be at least 14 years of age, have practiced Chinese martial arts for more than 3 years, have held 1st Duan for more than one year prior to the examination, and present proof of current duan ranking. To pass, they must receive a technical evaluation of more than 7 points in one barehand form and one weapon form (the maximum possible score is 10 points).
- Applicants for 3rd Duan must be at least 18 years of age, have practiced Chinese martial arts for more than 4 years., have held 2nd Duan for more than one year prior to the examination, and present proof of current duan ranking. To pass, they must receive a technical evaluation of more than 7.5 points in one barehand form and one weapon form (the maximum possible score is 10 points).
- Applicants for 4th and higher Duans may only apply for a Duan one rank higher than their current rank. For specific requirements for these Duan levels , see the Duan Ranking System Description. 8th and 9th Duans will not be awarded at this examination.
The Welcome Banquet will be a catered dinner with tournament officials and special guests. We are also selling a limited number of tickets — first come, first serve.
The Welcome Banquet will take place at Malee’s School of Tai Chi & Kung Fu on Friday, July 25, at 7:00 pm.
The USAWKF/USANTCCF Wushu Instructors and Judges Examination Course course was first organized by USANTCCF President Malee Khow in 2005. Since then it has become an annual event, a means of raising the level of wushu instruction and judging in the United States.
The USAWKF Duan Ranking Examination is the United States’ only officially recognized ranking system for Chinese martial arts. It will take place on Friday, July 25, beginning at 1 pm.
